Sasakawa India Leprosy Foundation Nursing Scholarship 2025 Applications Open

In a significant stride towards inclusive healthcare education, the Sasakawa-India Leprosy Foundation (S-ILF) announces its Nursing Scholarship 2025–26 for students residing in self-settled leprosy colonies. The initiative is targeted at students who are either personally affected by leprosy or have at least one parent who has experienced the disease. By supporting these aspiring nurses, S-ILF seeks to combat stigma, build confidence, and foster financial independence through professional education.

ELIGIBILITY THAT ENSURES INCLUSION

The scholarship is designed for students pursuing B.Sc. Nursing (Basic) and General Nursing & Midwifery (GNM) degrees, and applicants must meet the following conditions:

  • Be at least 17 years old at the time of application.
  • Be a resident of a self-settled leprosy colony.
  • Either have had leprosy themselves or have a parent who has/had the disease.
  • Be a first-year student beginning their nursing program in the academic year 2025–26.
  • For B.Sc. Nursing applicants, Class 12 must be completed with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English from a recognized institution.

This inclusive eligibility framework ensures that students from vulnerable communities can access high-quality healthcare education.

COMPREHENSIVE FINANCIAL SUPPORT

Selected students will receive monthly and annual financial support to cover academic expenses. This crucial assistance helps to remove economic barriers and allows students to fully focus on their studies and future careers in healthcare.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION FOR APPLICATION

Applicants must submit the following documents for consideration:

  • Passport-sized photographs
  • Proof of birth (birth certificate or equivalent)
  • Class 10 and 12 marksheets
  • Leprosy certificate of parent(s) – such as a treatment certificate, disability certificate mentioning Hansen's Disease, or certificate from the District Leprosy Officer
  • Admission letter or proof of admission from a government-recognized nursing institute

SELECTION PROCESS BASED ON MERIT AND INTERVIEW

Applications will be evaluated based on the Class 12 marks (or last qualifying board examination). Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a personal interview conducted by a selection committee. Final selections will be made based on academic merit, interview performance, and documentation.

If any candidate declines the scholarship, the opportunity will be extended to the next candidate on the waiting list.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: 30 MAY 2024

Eligible students are encouraged to apply before the deadline to be considered for this life-changing opportunity.

A STEP TOWARD DIGNITY AND EMPOWERMENT

The Sasakawa India Leprosy Foundation’s Nursing Scholarship is not just about financial assistance — it's about restoring dignity, breaking stigma, and creating a future where children of leprosy-affected families can become respected healthcare professionals. By investing in the education of young caregivers from marginalized backgrounds, S-ILF continues to champion equality, opportunity, and social justice in India's healthcare landscape.
